AI Agent

An autonomous AI system that can plan, take actions, and draw conclusions — distinct from chatbots in its ability to operate independently.

What Is an AI Agent?

An AI Agent is an artificial intelligence system capable of independently planning, executing actions, and drawing conclusions without requiring step-by-step human guidance. Unlike traditional chatbots that only answer individual questions, an AI Agent can break down a complex task into steps, use external tools to gather data, and synthesize results into a complete answer.

A typical AI Agent operates in a loop: Receive objective, Plan, Execute, Evaluate results, Adjust — repeating until the task is complete.

Simple Explanation

Imagine you hire a research assistant. A chatbot is like asking the assistant one question — they answer that single question and then sit waiting for the next one. An AI Agent is like saying: "Help me analyze HPG stock" — and the assistant independently knows to check financial statements, read recent news, examine technical charts, compare with the steel sector, and compile everything into a complete report.

In other words, a chatbot is a response tool, while an AI Agent is an autonomous worker.

Real-World Example

Suppose you want to evaluate FPT stock before their Q4 earnings release. An AI Agent specialized in stock analysis would automatically:

  1. Query financial data — retrieve revenue, profit, P/E, and ROE for FPT over the last 4 quarters
  2. Read news — find and summarize important FPT-related news from the past 30 days
  3. Run technical analysis — identify support/resistance zones and price trends
  4. Compare with peers — benchmark FPT against other tech companies like CMG and ELC
  5. Synthesize — deliver an overall assessment with key points to watch

This entire process happens automatically, without you requesting each step individually.

Why It Matters for Investors

Retail investors in Vietnam typically follow 5-15 stocks. If analyzed manually, each stock takes 1-2 hours — an enormous workload that few have time for.

AI Agents solve this problem by automating the entire research workflow. Instead of opening 5-6 different websites to collect data, you simply ask a question and receive a synthesized analysis.

The key point: an AI Agent does not replace your investment decisions. It serves as a research assistant — helping you access information faster and more completely, so you can make better decisions with the same amount of time.
